The Site

A bony ridge in the Central Texas Hill Country is the site for The Apocalypse.

A Mighty Wind

We got a call from our neighbor that a big wind had come up during the night and blew over a bunch of our trees. Mostly we lost cedar. Some of it just snapped off in the middle.

Others peeled up off the earth, showing the depth and fertility of our soil.

We lost two oaks, but the loss opened up the view of the lake.

Surveyors in the Mist

George Sanders of Loomis Partners explains how his crew uses GPS equipment to conduct the topographic survey: “What they were doing was gathering xyz values – horizontal and vertical locations. We can calculate within an eight of an inch the location of any point. … As he’s walking, the instrument turns and it always stays pointing at him. The equipment is really fascinating and so reliable. When we get into the office, we have a date stamp on every thing they’ve done. We can even tell if the crew is working hard or not working hard.”
